PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluid pressure control unit for a vehicular brake system having a control valve capable of being opened under both high and low master cylinder pressure conditions, as desired. SOLUTION: A housing 106 having a hole 102 inside it is provided. A normally closed solenoid valve 100 is held within the hole 102 of the housing 106. The solenoid valve 100 is provided with a main valve 182 and a pilot valve 176, and the cross section of the main valve 102 is made larger than that of the pilot valve 176. A spring 170 cooperates with the pilot valve 176 in opening the pilot valve 176 when the main valve 182 is opened.
