PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dot printer and a control method effectuating high-quality printing by equalizing a distance between a drive position of a dot form element and a dot position formed on a print medium by the driving between a first half and a second half of the reciprocatory movement of a carriage without changing a paper gap. SOLUTION: At a first half and/or a second half movements of a carriage 3, the dot printer provides a time change to a signal TS generated by a timing signal generate circuit 61 for driving a nozzle 21 so as to prevent a positional shift between an image printed to a print medium 200 in the first half movement of the carriage and an image printed in the second half movement of the carriage. Moreover, the dot printer includes an EEPROM 72 in which change information for changing the timing signal TS for a plurality of print media 200 is stored. A carriage drive control circuit 52 selects change information corresponding to a print medium thickness from the EEPROM 72.
