A compound of Formula (1) and salts thereof: wherein: A is optionally substituted phenyl; R<1> and R<2> are each independently optionally substituted alkyl or optionally substituted alkoxy; and R<4> and R<5> are each independently H, optionally substituted alkyl or optionally substituted aryl; provided that (i) at least one of R<1> and R<2> carries an -OH group; and (ii) A is not of formula (a): wherein m is 1, 2 or 3. The compounds are useful as dyes for ink jet printing inks.
