The invention relates to a novel method for producing an indanone or thioindanone type compound from an optionally substituted benzene compound. The inventive method is characterized by the following steps: (1) an acylation step whereby an optionally substituted benzene compound is reacted with an acylating agent to obtain a benzene compound that carries a side-chain consisting of at least three straight-chained carbon atoms, a carbonyl group or a thiocarbonyl group in position alpha in relation to the carbon atom from the benzene cycle on which the chain is branched and a reactive functional group; the reaction is carried out in the presence of an effective amount of hydrofluoric acid and possibly boric trifluorine, (2) a step in which the product thus obtained is cyclized in the presence of an effective amount of sulphuric acid. The aim of the invention is to produce 5-chloroindanone and 5.6-dimethoxyindanone. |
