A hydrodemolition apparatus and method for using water to demolish a target. The apparatus includes a housing (20) with at least one nozzle and at least one suction port. The housing is positioned over a target which may be a railroad tie (12) embedded in concrete (14). Water is supplied under pressure to the nozzle using a pump (38); the water is impinged onto the target with sufficient force to disintegrate the target; the water and debris are suctioned from the housing with a suction pump (36); and a filter is used to remove solid material from the water so that it may be recycled. A separate power source (50) supplies hydraulic or pneumatic power to a motor (19) which controls rotation of the nozzle within the housing. |
