PURPOSE: A process for preparing magnesia powder by melting magnesia raw ore in hydrochloric acid and removing impurities is provided which produces the products having various purities in a simple manner in a short time. CONSTITUTION: Magnesium chloride aqueous solution with an Mg content of 50 to 200 g/L is sprayed at 600 to 1,000°C in an atmospheric atmosphere to give magnesia powder. By the method as mentioned above, the high purity magnesia powder having anti-hydration property, without injuring inherent properties of magnesia can be produced. The powder useful as high quality ferrite and fire resisting material comprises more than 95% by weight of magnesium oxide and the residue of chlorides. |
