PURPOSE: A web-based virtual dissection system of three-dimensional medical image and its method are provided. CONSTITUTION: A system is divided into a web server and a web client, continuous two-dimensional medical image is reconstructed via data aquisition, image treating, surface model formation and VRML transformation, the continuous two-dimensional medical image is visualized to the three-dimensional medical image on the web browser including a VRML viewer and an event handler, and the result image is output via the message processing. If a user inputs the dissection information such as position, region and depth by mouse event on the visualized three-dimensional medical image on a web browser, the event handler transports the information to the message processing step.
