PURPOSE: A color cathode ray tube and an exposure method thereof are provided to improve a brightness of a fluorescent screen and further to minimize lowering of a color purity. CONSTITUTION: A color cathode ray tube includes a rectangular shadow mask having a multiplicity of electron-transmissive apertures and a fluorescent screen(6') having fluorescent substances of red(6R'), green(6G') and blue(6B') formed at positions corresponding to the apertures. Each electron-transmissive aperture of the shadow mask has a circular form, so that a blow mark of an electron beam(4) on the screen(6') is also circular shape. On the other hand, each fluorescent substance(6R',6G'6B') in corners of the screen(6') at least is formed into an elliptical shape. That is, a horizontal width(Wp') of the fluorescent substance is greater than a vertical width(Wp). In addition, a lateral distance(Wh') from the electron beam to the neighboring fluorescent substance becomes smaller than ever. To perform an exposure process, while a panel is coated with fluorescent slurry and a light source is disposed parallel with a minor axis of the screen(6'), the light source makes a reciprocating motion in a direction of a major axis of the screen(6').
