PURPOSE: An internet information retrieval system and method is provided to make a searcher definitely understand the contents of a retrieved information, and to reduce the retrieval time by presenting summarized key sentences and key words. CONSTITUTION: An internet information retrieval system comprises an internet, an information server offering an information over the internet, a user computer for inputting a query for retrieving a wanted information and browsing a retrieved information result, and an information retrieval module(23) for retrieving a document, and automatically summarized key words & sentences. The information retrieval module(23) includes a database(23-1) storing various types of retrieval information, a retrieval processor(23-2) performing a retrieval on a query submitted by a searcher, and a retrieval result processor(23-3) combining the retrieval results of the retrieval processor(23-2) and transmitting them to the server(23-1). The database(23-1) includes a retrieval information database(23-11) storing search word directory information and general information, and a summary information database(23-12) storing the summarized key words and sentences.
