PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power supply apparatus which enables the improvement of a power factor and the suppression of harmonic waves and has excellent reliability, while a large inductive reactance device is not required, hence the cost is not increased, complicated circuit structure, for instance, employment of active filters and the trouble of the decline of power conversion efficiency which is caused by switching loss are avoided. SOLUTION: The zero-cross point of an AC power supply voltage is detected. A short-circuiting circuit 6 is first turned on continuously and then successively turned on intermittently over a predetermined time T corresponding to the value of a load 4 and the capacity of an inductive reactance device 6 with the detected timing as a reference.
