PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability of the operation section of an image pickup device by realizing miniaturization and a thin profile of the entire image pickup device. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is provided with a device main body having a recording and reproducing means that records/reproduces information to/from a magnetic tape, a case 6 that encloses the device main body, and an operation section 10 that is placed movably on the outer circumferential face of the case 6 and has a rotary operation member 11 to operate the device main body. The rotary operation member 11 of the operation section 10 is placed rotatably on an axis of rotation placed orthogonally to the support face 8 of the case 6 in contact with a palm supporting the case 6 in the case of photographing while an image pickup lens is directed to an object.
