The invention concerns a light source with light-emitting diodes comprising several levels of diodes such that the light emitted by the diodes at a lower level passes through the higher levels where other diodes are located. The resulting light sources provide an illumination higher than that normally provided by a source having diodes at only one level. The invention is useful each time strong illumination needs to be provided from a limited radiating surface.
