摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optionally adjust the apparent density of zinc or a zinc alloy and to improve the performance of a battery using it as a negative electrode active material by manufacturing it from a molten metal of the zinc or zinc alloy adjusted to the specific temperature range of the melting point or above of zinc by the air atomizing method via compressed air. SOLUTION: The temperature of a molten metal of deposited zinc by the electrolytic method or a zinc ingot by the vacuum distillation method or a molten metal added with one or more kinds of Al, Mg, Bi, Ca, Pb and In, for example, at the prescribed quantity is adjusted to the melting temperature of zinc 419.4-560 deg.C, and suitable dripping and the prevention of a molten metal leakage of a furnace can be realized. The powder with the apparent density 2.2-2.9 g/cm3 is preferably obtained from the molten metal at this temperature by the air atomizing method, and a discharge characteristic is improved by the optimization of the relation between the surface area and the hydrogen gas generation quantity by a self-discharge and the relation between the inter-particle contact area and internal resistance. The apparent density is increased or decreased according to the added metal. The zinc or zinc alloy is preferably sieved to set its particle size in the range of 35-200 mesh.
