PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable continuous satisfactory removal of a printing material to be performed from a recyclable water-swellable recording material even if the recording material printed with the printing material is repeatedly applied by removing the printing material on the recording material and imparting a surfactant-containing liquid to the surface of the recording material. SOLUTION: A printing material 4 on a recyclable water-swellable recording material is removed and a surfactant-containing liquid is imparted to the surface of the recording material. The recording material is formed by laminating a surface layer 3 on a base material layer 1. A water resistant plastic film having a transparent surface or a water resistant plastic film opacified by adding inorganic fine particles is suitable for use as the base material layer 1. The surface layer 3 comprises a water-swellable resin prepared by crosslinking a water-soluble resin, e.g. a water-soluble resin having active hydrogen-containing functional groups such as hydroxyl or amino groups in the molecule.
