PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly adjust white balance by comprehending the positional relation of an object from a color evaluation value and calculating a gain by a corresponding method. SOLUTION: When a shutter button 42 is depressed, a CPU 34 executes preliminary exposure without lighting a strobe 21. Then RGB data of an object image obtained from pre-exposure are individually integrated for a peripheral part and a middle part to calculate a color evaluation value. The CPU 34 causes the strobe 21 to emit light to execute main exposure succeedingly. A similar integration processing is conducted from the object image obtained by the main exposure to calculate the color evaluation value. When the four color evaluation values are obtained in this way, the CPU 34 recognizes the positional relation of the object from the color evaluation values and calculates each gain of amplifiers 26, 28 so as to properly adjust white balance by a method which deals with the recognition result.
