PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically update the versions of the programs of other printers only by revising the program of one of printers which are connected to a network and operate with the same program. SOLUTION: Each of the printers connected to a host device through the network retrieves a printer of the same model which operates on the network with the same program with itself (S1), obtains version information on the program of the retrieved printer (S3), and compares the version of its program with the obtained version, thereby updating its program by downloading the program of the printer having a newer version than its own program in such a case.
