PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a PHS data communication system in which radio communication terminals each using a PHS portable terminal conducts efficient communication. SOLUTION: Transmission reception of a plurality of radio communication channels is executed, PHS portable terminals 2, 6 with the PIAFS data transmission protocol are used, and an application software program installed in radio communication terminals 1, 7 informs the PHS portable terminals about a communication data total amount. Base stations 3, 5 are provided with protocol control sections 18, 24, that compare the data total amount with a threshold value and select and convert an ISDN 4 and a communication means according to the comparison result to conduct data communication between the radio communication terminals so as to realize simple and efficient PHS data communication.
