PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for on-screen displaying a message together with an MPEG coded video signal, with respect to an electronic device for consumers such as a TV, a VCR and a DVD player using on-screen display(OSD) for the message. SOLUTION: Contents of an OSD text or a graphic image are stored in a nonvolatile memory in a special format, the contents of the OSD text or graphics are divided in the unit of macro blocks, and OSD macro block data are stored in the memory in a form of MPEG coding. The OSD macro blocks to be displayed are processed as slices. |
