PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate scanning interpolation processing with respect to an image signal obtained by a line sensor corresponding to color image pickup. SOLUTION: A light receiving pixel column 11g corresponding to G components is arranged at the lowermost stream with respect to the moving direction of sub-scanning, and light receiving pixel columns 11b and 11r, corresponding to B components and R components are arranged at the upstream side, so that a line sensor 11 can be formed. Scanning line density is decided by using an image signal G0 obtained from the light receiving pixel column 11g corresponding to the G components as a reference, and the scanning line density of image signals B0 and R0 obtained from the other light receiving columns 11b and 11r is adjusted in matching with the scanning line density.
