PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for the automatic continuous treatment of harvested Welsh onion smeared with soil to enable the treatment to a quality comparable to the quality attainable by manual work simply by selecting a good leaf to be used as a product by a worker and throwing the selected leaf into the treating apparatus. SOLUTION: The objective apparatus is composed of a starting end transfer means 10 to receive a Welsh onion 1 in laid posture and gradually turn the onion in the course of transfer to vertical posture directing the stalk 3 downward, a hair root cutting means 32 to cut the hair root 2 of the Welsh onion 1 during the transfer in vertical state, a suspending transfer means 40 to hold the leaf 5 of the onion 1 and transfer in suspended state, a stalk cutting means 50 to cut the stalk 3 of the onion 1 during transfer, an off-grade leaf peeling means 60 to peel the off-grade leaf 6 from the Welsh onion 1, a leaf sheath transfer means 85 to transfer the Welsh onion 1 by holding its leaf sheath 4 and a leaf cutting means 95 to cut the unnecessary leaf part 5 of the Welsh onion during the transfer with the suspending transfer means 40 and the leaf sheath transfer means 85.
