PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily produce a high-silica zeolite having specific X-ray diffraction peaks and a porous structure by mixing an oxide selected from Si and Ge with a selected metal oxide in a specified molar ratio, adding water and an organic compound thereto, carrying out a thermal reaction and then removing the organic compound. SOLUTION: A first component of an organic compound comprising a di- quaternary salt of 1,1'-butylenedi(4-aza-1-azonia-2,5-dimethylbicyclo[2.2.2]octane), water and an oxide of an element selected from Si and Ge or its mixture is mixed with a second component of an oxide of an element selected from Al, B, Ga, Fe, Ti and Zn or its mixture. The resultant mixture is then thermally reacted to remove the organic compound from the obtained product to produce a zeolite having >=0.53 nm average pore diameter. The molar ratio of the first/ second components is >=20 and the zeolite has diffraction peaks at 7.00±0.10, 7.59±0.10, 8.89±0.10, 10.79±0.10, 16.80±0.10, 20.68±0.10 and 22.88±0.10 (2θ) in a powder X-ray diffractometry.
