PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a temporary hanging scaffold which can be easily installed or removed without narrowing a stairs passageway or closing the passageway by obstacles and through which finish works to the rear side of the stair steps or the rear side of a landing or the like can be carried out. SOLUTION: This hanging scaffold for stairs which can be adapted for stairs having landings, is constituted of a hanging plate 1 as a fixing tool attached to the rear face of the landing floor K of the stairs, a hanging scaffold frame 2 hung down from the landing floor K and fixed thereto by the hanging plate 1, steel ledger boards 3 as horizontal ledger boards laid down on the bottom face of the hanging scaffold frame 2, and extensible steel bridges 4 as oblique scaffold plates obliquely laid between adjacent hanging scaffold frames 2, 2. Extensible jacks 5 are put between the hanging scaffold frames 2 and the rear faces of the landing floors K of the stairs.
