PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve ship propulsion, utilize resultantly elevated ship engine output to the utmost, improve the fuel economy and raise the ship speed by installing a large-diameter propeller. SOLUTION: The stern structure of ships comprises a stern frame 5 for journalling a propeller shaft 4 in parallel relation to a horizontal keel 8 and for journalling both upper and lower ends of a rudderpost 2. In the stern frame 5, a lower propeller-side component 6 extends horizontally backward from an extension 8a extending back from the rear end of the keel 8 in lowered relation to it, and a propeller shaft support portion 11 is at a height below half of that of a space 10 enclosed by the stern frame 5. The lower end of a propeller 3 is lowered below the hull keel 8. At least either of an upper and a lower stern frame 5a and 5b holding the propeller shaft support portion 11 in between is concaved to increase the propeller mounting space 10 defined inside the stern frame 5 accordingly. |
