PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the workability and the efficiency of device service time by allowing a scanner function and printer function to be in service at the same time. SOLUTION: The opened/shut condition of a cover 31 is sensed on the basis of the sensing signal given by a fixed detecting sensor 33, and if the cover 31 is open, sheets of paper after image formation are accommodated in a sheet stagnation part 25 through the motion of a sheet transport part 23. If it is sensed that sheet(s) after image formation has passed a specified position on the transport passage 23, a fixing member 32 is operated to fix the cover 31 in shut state. When sheets are accommodated on a tray sheet exhaust 24, cover fixation by the member 32 is released. If after the start of sheet exhaust from the image forming part 21 or sheet stagnation part 25, the cover 31 is opened before the sheets pass the specified position on the transport part 23, the sheets exhausted from the part 21 or 25 are accommodated in the sheet stagnation part 25.
