Wool and mixed wool materials are chlorinated evenly so as to obtain an even felt- and shrink-proof finish by effecting the chlorination in an acidic aqueous medium in the presence of condensation compounds obtained by the treatment of polyalkylene polyamines free from hydroxyl groups with alkylating agents which are also free from hydroxyl groups and contain at least two alkylating groups in the molecule.
