PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair cosmetic capable of imparting a sufficient smooth feeling, sufficient softness and a sufficient gloss to the hair and excellent in hair protecting effects. SOLUTION: The characteristic of this hair cosmetic is to contain an ester compound prepared by esterifying ingredients (1), (2) and (3) mentioned below and a polar oil and has the content of the ester compound of 0.01-10.0 wt.% based on the total amount of the hair cosmetic and the content of the polar oil of 1-50 times the content of the ester compound expressed in terms of weight ratio. (1) a polyhydric alcohol, (2) an 8-30C fatty acid or an 8-30C hydroxy-fatty acid (a straight-chain or a branched, a saturated or an unsaturated one) and (3) a 12-30C straight-chain or a 12-30C branched dibasic acid.
