A motor vehicle door assembly comprises a door 22 pivotally mounted on a body 24 of a vehicle, a door check means 30 and a braking control means. The door check means comprises an arm connected to the door and to the body to limit opening of the dor. A door braking means acts on the arm to prevent opening of the door, a first positive braking means engaging the arm to brake the door during opening and a second braking means in static mechanical engagement with the arm, until released, to sustain the door in an open position, the braking means being operated by the braking control means to allow movement of the door. |
