PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize high speed recording by generating odd numbered and even numbered selection signals of each block obtained by dividing the recording element of a recording head, outputting these selection signals to the head and controlling start and end of these outputs thereby enhancing continuity of block drive. SOLUTION: A record signal entering into an interface 1700 is converted into a record signal for print between a gate array 1704 and an MPU 1701. Motor drivers 1706, 1707 are then driven and recording heads 101a-101d are driven for recording through a head driver 1705. Elements of the recording head are divided into a plurality of blocks and first and second selection signals for selecting the odd numbered and even numbered blocks are generated. The first and second selection signals are delivered to the head. In order to start driving of both blocks alternately. Output of both drive signals is controlled to start output of second drive signal before ending output of first drive signal.
