PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a commercial quantity of a secondary alkoxy-1-alkene while restraining the formation of by-product down to a minimum level by forming a reaction mixture of a specific (non)cyclic ketone, an ortho-formate ester and an alkanol, followed by adding an acid catalyst and by agitating the reaction mixture. SOLUTION: By forming a reaction mixture of a (non)cyclic ketone of formula I [wherein, R is a (substituted) 1-10C hydrocarbon; R1 and R2 are each H or a 1-10C monovalent hydrocarbon] or formula II [wherein, R' is formed by combining R with R1 and is a (substituted) 5-8C membered ring], an ortho- formate ester of formula III [wherein, R3 and R4 are each a (substituted) 1-10C hydrocarbon] and an alkanol of the formula R3R4CH-OH, followed by adding an acid catalyst (preferably ferric chloride or the like) to the reaction mixture, by agitating the reaction mixture while monitoring the progress of the reaction and by being collected, the objective compound of formula IV or V is obtained. |
