PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce Cr stainless steel having high surface hardness, excellent press workability and corrosion resistance and to provide a method for produc ing it. SOLUTION: This steel sheet has a chemical compsn. contg., by mass, 12 to 18% Cr, 0.03 to 0.1% C+N and Nb: 0.1×(C+N) to (C+N)%, in which the surface layer part of at least one side has a structure contg. >=30 vol.% martensitic phase, and the internal layer part has a structure in which the ratio of a martensitic phase is conrolled to <=50 vol.% and also is low of being equal to or below the ration of the martensitic phase in the surface layer part. This steel sheet is produced by executing continuous annealing in the temp. zone of >= the Ac1 point to <1,100 deg.C after final cold rolling.
