The method for repairing a damaged tip of a turbine engine member, e.g. a turbine blade, having a designed length, the blade including an outer wall having on it an environmental resistant coating extending at least onto the tip, comprises the steps of removing the damaged tip to provide a preform end surface on the member, while retaining the coating on the outer wall adjacent the preform end surface. It also involves bonding replacement tip material to the preform end surface to provide a repaired blade preform having a second length greater than the designed length. It then involves removing a portion of the replacement tip material to provide the blade with a repaired member tip and with the designed length, while retaining the coating on the wall adjacent the repaired blade tip. |
