PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound useful as an active ingredient for an insecticide and an acaricide or an intermediate for producing the active ingredient by reacting a specific carboxylic acid derivative with chlorodibromofluoromethane in the presence of triphenylphosphine and zinc. SOLUTION: A carboxylic acid derivative of formula I (R is a lower alkyl) [e.g. methyl (1R)-trans-3-formyl-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate] is reacted with chlorodibromofluoromethane in the molar ratio of preferably 1:(1.0-5.0) in the presence of triphenylphosphine and zinc to give the objective compound of formula II. Preferably the amount of triphenylphosphine used is 1.0-5.0 mols, preferably 1.5-3.0 mols based on 1 mol carboxylic acid derivative and that of zinc used is 1.0-5.0 mols, preferably 1.5-3.0 mols.
