PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve core excellent in its high pressure airtightness in which an elastic packing is not broken even when pressure in the piping of a refrigerating cycle becomes high. SOLUTION: A valve core for a charge valve is provided with a tapered surface 13 on the upper part of the outside surface of a valve core main body 9, an O-ring 14 in an intermediate position, an external thread 15 in a lower part and an upwardly tapered surface 17 in the lower end part of an inner hole 16. A shaft 10 formed by fitting a cylindrical elastic packing 22 to a part between a dowel 20 and a valve packing receiver 21 on a lower end part is inserted into the insert hole 11 of the valve core main body 9. A compression coil spring 23 is provided between the upper surface of the valve core main body 9 and a spring stopping part 24 on the upper end part of the shaft 10 to maintain an airtightness by the tapered surface 17 of the valve core main body 9 and the elastic packing 22. In this case, when high pressure is exerted on the lower end part of the valve core so that the elastic packing 22 shrinks by a prescribed amount, any part of the shaft 10 comes into contact with the valve core body 9 to serve as a stopper.
