PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having a heterocyclic ring in the phenoxazone skeleton, with high emission brightness, fastness and emission efficiency or the like, and useful as a red-color-based fluorescent coloring matter used in e.g. coloring various resins and inks. SOLUTION: This, new compound is a compound of formula I [ring-A and ring-B are each a (substituted) benzene ring], e.g. a compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, by reaction between (A) a nitrosophenol derivative (hydrochloride) of formula III [R1 and R2 are each a (substituted) alkyl, (substituted) phenyl, or joined together to form a single ring; R3 to R5 are each H, a halogen, cyano, nitro, a (substituted) alkyl, or the like; or R3 and R4, R4 and R1, or R2 and R5 are each joined together to form a ring] and (B) a homophthalimide of formula IV (R6 is a halogen, hydroxyl, an alkyl or alkoxy; n is 0-4) in (C) an inert solvent (e.g. dimethylformamide) at 50-300 deg.C for 0.5-48 h to form a compound of formula V, one of the objective compounds.
