PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire that offers good performance on snow and ice. SOLUTION: Three sipes 22 are cut in a block 18 formed on a tread surface, each running parallel with each other and extending in the width direction of a tire. Each sipe 22 comprises slope surfaces 28A, 28B that extend from a bottom surface 26 of the sipe and are wider apart toward a tread surface 24. That is, the sipe 22 is shaped to have the greatest clearance at the tread surface 24 and the smallest clearance at its bottom 26. When a pneumatic tire with sipes of such a shape is used on a snowy road, the sipe 22 will not close even when the block 18 makes contact with the road surface, effectively dispersing snow that enters the inside of the sipe. The same holds true with an icy road. Thus, the tire offers outstanding performance on snow and ice. |
