An automated gearbox, in series with an engine and clutch in a vehicle power train is shifted by means of two driving units 201,202. Motor 202 rotates a shaft 231 through gearing 222,223; 224,232 to move the gearbox ratio selector into position such that the desired gear can then be engaged by rotation of shaft 210 driven by motor 201. A gear transmission between the motor 201 and the shaft 210 has two substantially disc-shaped rotary elements 270,271 movable relative to each other. Springs 273 interposed between said elements resist relative rotation between the discs and tooth-like projections 276 provided on at least one of the elements 270,271 are used with a sensor 278,279 to monitor the rotational movements of the discs. |
