PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce a high S/N fluorescent image by a fluorescence observation device. SOLUTION: This fluorescence observation device has an excitation light irradiation means 10 and a fluorescent image pickup means 14. The excitation light irradiation means 10 irradiates excitation light 3 in the excitation wavelength range of a light sensitive material to a part 1 of a patient's body including the light sensitive material which emits fluorescence 2. The fluorescent image pickup means 14 detects the fluorescence 2 and picks up a fluorescent image. The excitation light 3 is modulated in intensity by a modulation means 15 according to a prescribed periodic function, and a specific value corresponding to the amplitude of the periodic intensity variation of the fluorescence for each pixel is found by an analysis means 21 based on the image data in a time series outputted from the fluorescent image pickup means 14.
