<p>PURPOSE: A soft handoff method in a cellular telecommunication system is provided to command a new report to an MS(Mobile Station) to continuously perform prior handoff through the new report, if handoff is not normally progressed due to the quality deterioration of a wireless link. CONSTITUTION: An MS(Mobile Station,4) detects a new PN offset, and reports the alteration of an AS(Active Set) to a BSC(Base Station Controller,2) through a BTS(Base Station Transceiver Subsystem,3)(210). The BSC(2) decides whether to perform soft handoff or softer handoff, according to the kind of the new PN offset(220). The BSC(2) commands the alteration of wireless resources to the BTS(3)(230). If handoff is commanded to the MS(4)(240), the MS(4) alters the AS through a handoff process and reports the completion of handoff to the BSC(2)(250). If a handoff completion message of the MS(4) is lost due to the deterioration of the quality of a reverse wireless link, the BSC(2) does not receive the handoff completion message(250). The BSC(2) commands handoff to the MS(4) to five times(240). If a handoff completion message is not received(250), re-report of the alteration of the AS is commanded to the MS(4)(260). The MS(4) measures presently detected PN offsets, to re-report a present AS(270). The BSC(2) compares the contents of the new AS with the contents of the firstly received AS. If the alteration of AS is not detected, handoff is commanded to the MS(4)(280). The MS(4) performs handoff to alter the AS and reports the completion of handoff(290).</p> |
