PURPOSE: A continuously variable transmission is provided to efficiently use engine power by making stepless shifting area wide and to enhance durability by dividing a load applied to a belt. CONSTITUTION: A continuously variable transmission contains a torque converter(4) as an oscillation device(2) having a multiple disc clutch(14) to transmit rotational force to a first shaft(16) from an engine(6) and to control power transmission; a forward and backward movement controller(20) arranging clutch gears(26,28) for a forward and a backward movement in both sides of a sleeve(24), arranging a forward and a reverse gear(34,36) on a second shaft(18) and engaging a forward and a backward input gear(30,32) engaged with the clutch gears, the forward gear and the reverse gear, with an idling gear(38) between the backward input gear and the reverse gear; a first stepless gear(40) transmitting rotational force from the second shaft to a third shaft(42) through a driving pulley(44), a driven pulley(46) and a belt(48); a second shifting gear(70) transmitting rotational force from the third shaft to a fourth shaft(74) through a driving pulley(72), a driven pulley(76) and a belt(78); and an output shaft transmitting rotational force from the fourth shaft to rear wheels.
