PURPOSE: An O2 sensor degradation detection method is provided to cope with regulation against discharge of exhaust emission by detecting a degradation of an O2 sensor by using a critical value. CONSTITUTION: A degradation detection method for an O2 sensor comprises the steps of: initializing a lean/thick deciding critical value as a specific constant; setting up a density of O2 as a lean/thick deciding critical value; and deciding an O2 sensor to be degraded if an initial lean/thick deciding critical value is over the changed lean/thick deciding critical value. As a degraded O2 sensor is replaced and a catalyst is checked repeatedly with response to the detection of degradation, discharge of exhaust emission is reduced.
