PURPOSE: A detecting method for a phase error in a phase detector is provided to calculate a precise phase error regardless of changing factors of the phase error by independently increasing/decreasing a distance value between a threshold voltage and a reference symbol. CONSTITUTION: A transition point of an input signal waveform is detected for establishing symbols before/after transition. Changed amount of distances between threshold voltages of the symbols is compared with increasing/decreasing reference amount. A distance changed amount is renewed according to a result of the comparison. Then, the renewed distance changed amount is substituted for a phase error detect algorithm to detect a phase error. Herein, a sampling point is precisely controlled regardless of changing factors of the phase error through independently increasing/decreasing the distances between the threshold voltages of the symbols.
