The overflow sensor (55), which may be an infrared sensor, detects the presence of breast milk entering the internal pump mechanisms (50), and instantly shuts off the pump to prevent contamination. The automated flushing system (70) provides a series of specifically timed suck, release cycles at varying suction levels to systematically pull an appropriate amount of cleansing fluid through the pump mechanism (50) to ensure proper cleaning, and removal of all breast milk residue. |
