PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display is to improve the contrast ratio and the right and left visual field angle by forming a liquid crystal layer including dichroic dye on a reflecting type liquid crystal display. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal layer(30) is formed between an upper substrate(10) and a lower substrate(20). The upper substrate and the lower substrate are arranged to be opposite to each other. The lower substrate is provided with a driving electrode(21,22) for driving the liquid crystal layer. The driving electrodes are spaced at a predetermined interval. The liquid crystal layer includes a liquid crystal molecule(30a) and a dichroic dye(30b). A polarized light plate(11) is provided on the rear surface of the upper substrate to select only the light having one travel direction. A reflecting plate(23) is provided on the rear surface of the lower substrate. The reflecting plate reflects the light passing through the liquid crystal layer to the liquid crystal layer again. The liquid crystal molecule and the dichroic dye are arranged perpendicular to the upper and lower substrates.
