PURPOSE: A continuously variable transmission for a vehicle effectively uses the output of an engine by increasing the speed change range thereof and applies a large torque to a vehicle, which needs the torque. CONSTITUTION: A continuously variable speed change device(9) implements the first continuously variable shifting if the power of an engine is transmitted thereto by the operation of a power intercepting device. Then, the second speed change implements by synchronizers(51,63) at a main shaft(35) and a counter shaft(53) of a manual transmission. Thus, the output of the engine efficiently uses the increasing of a shifting range of a transmission. Further, the transmission is used to a vehicle, which needs a large torque.
