PURPOSE: A continuously variable transmission is provided to efficiently use engine power by making stepless shifting area wide and to enhance durability by dividing a load applied to a belt. CONSTITUTION: A continuously variable transmission contains a torque converter(6) as an oscillation device(4) connected to the output terminal of an engine(2); a forward and backward movement controller(8) controlling the forward and the backward movement of a vehicle in the rear output terminal of the oscillation device; a low speed/high speed selector(28) selecting a low speed or a high speed in the rear output terminal of the forward and backward movement controller; a stepless shifting gear(46) consisting of a driving pulley(48) arranged on the output terminal of the forward and backward movement controller, a driven pulley(50) separated from the driving pulley in a specific distance and a belt(52) connecting two pulleys; and a power synthesizer(74) synthesizing rotational power between the low speed/high speed selector and the stepless shifting gear.
