PURPOSE: A power train of an automatic transmission for a vehicle realizes four advance speeds and a reverse speed by using a combined carrier as an outputting element. CONSTITUTION: A single pinion planetary gear set(6) and double pinion planetary gear set(8) share a ring gear(10) and a planetary carrier(12). The sun gear(18) of the single pinion planetary gear set(6) is variably connected to an input shaft(2) through the first friction element(20). The ring gear(10) is selectively connected to a transmission housing(24) through the second friction element(22) and variably connected to the input shaft(2) through a fourth friction element(20). A sun gear(16) of the double pinion planetary gear set(8) is selectively connected to the transmission housing(24) through the third friction element(26). The input shaft(2) and a sun gear shaft(4) are variably connected by a fifth friction element(30). Therefore, a power train outputs four advance speeds and a reverse speed with sharing a ring gear and using a combined carrier as an outputting element.
