PURPOSE: A power train for an automatic transmission realizes advance 5 speeds and a reverse speed by using three planetary sets and five friction elements and removes an element rotating faster than an input and an output shafts on an overdrive. CONSTITUTION: A power train for an automatic transmission realizes advance 5 speeds and a reverse speed by operating or not operating a clutch device and a brake device. On an overdrive state such as advance 4,5 speeds, it is prevented that three planetary gear sets rotate in a higher speed than those of an input shaft(1) and an output shaft, thereby minimizing the loss of power. Further, the automatic transmission becomes compact and light by using small numbers of friction elements.
