PURPOSE: A solid state image device and a method thereof is provided to make the focal distance of each wavelength range passed through color filter layers uniform by varying with the thickness of each color filter layer. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of regions of photo diodes convert light to electrical signals, and a plurality of vertical charge coupled devices transfer the image charge generated in the regions of the photo diodes toward one direction. A black and white solid state image device(21) comprises the regions of the photo diodes and the vertical charge coupled devices. Three color filter layers(27) are formed on the upper sides of three photo diodes in a black and white solid state image device(21) by one to one. The three color filter layers(27) are different from one another in thickness so as to focus light of each wavelength range on the photo diodes uniformly.
