PURPOSE: A detecting method for the trouble of an ATF(automatic transmission fluid) temperature sensor is provided to decide that the ATF temperature sensor is out of order when the temperature output of the sensor is different from an actual temperature by more than 50 to 60 degrees caused by the trouble of the sensor and a wire. CONSTITUTION: To detect the trouble of an ATF temperature sensor, a detecting system reads the output of the sensor and decides that the sensor is out of order when the output of fluid temperature is more than a top limit or less than a bottom limit. When between the top and the bottom limit, the fluid temperature is compared with a modeling value to check if the modeling value is more the 60deg.C. If so, the detecting system decides that the ATF temperature sensor is out of order and if not, the detecting system subtracts 20deg.C from the modeling value and compares the subtracted modeling value with the output of the fluid temperature. When the output of the fluid temperature is less than the subtracted modeling value, the detecting system decides that the sensor is out of order.
