PURPOSE: Automatically reverse rotating and stopping device and method for a cassette tape are provided to reduce a converting time of tapes while preventing overload through recognizing an end of the tape in a short time by comparing a frequency characteristic signal with a reference voltage. CONSTITUTION: A motor(12) drives a reel according to a signal line connected to a motor drive unit(11). A frequency/voltage convert unit(13) converts a signal having a frequency characteristic on the signal line into a voltage. A comparing unit(14) compares the converted voltage with a reference voltage. A logic control IC(15) controls peripheral apparatuses such as a head switch(SW1) reading a signal recorded on the tape by the compared signal, and a tape automatically reverse rotating switch(SW2) performing reverse rotation of the tape.
